Guys and Dolls – Videos and More!

Just a quick update before I add more content in the coming days. You’ll see links to videos from our April 5th rehearsal, an online folder that contains some Karaoke files I scrounged up, the pre-order ticket form, and the accompaniment for Havana. Opening night is nine days away; take the time to study these materials to give your best possible performance. The password for the video is the first word of the third song of the second act, immediately followed by the graduation year of the person who sings that song.  If you’re not up for the riddle, then check your e-mail 🙂

General Information

Congratulations to those who received roles and to everyone who auditioned this week! If you do not see your name, don’t worry – you are still in the show and will be included as singers, dancers, and actors in many of the NYC and Havana scenes.
Our first full cast rehearsal will be scheduled for late January or early February. I’ll keep you all posted via morning announcements and e-mail. Have a Merry Christmas and I will see you all in the New Year!

Guys and Dolls

Yesterday I announced that our Spring 2012 musical will be Guys and Dolls. This musical is iconic, with numerous upbeat musical numbers and unforgettable characters. The story is set in late 1940’s New York City, and our characters are upright missionaries and downright criminals, sinners and saints who play out two engaging love stories immersed in a sea of colorful personalities. The most recognizable song from the show is probably “Luck Be a Lady” made popular by Frank Sinatra, who played Nathan Detroit in the 1955 MGM film. If you’d like more information about the characters, the plot, and the audition process, you should download the Audition Information Packet.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on Monday December 19th and Tuesday December 20th from 3:00-5:00 in the HS Band Room. You only need to attend one day of auditions. The results will be posted before the Winter Recess.

Chorus Only

If you do not want to be considered for a leading role, please prepare one stanza of  “Luck Be a Lady.” You will not need to read.

Female Roles

The two female audition songs are I’ll Know (Sarah) and Sue Me (Adelaide). If you are auditioning for both roles then you should prepare both numbers. If you are auditioning for only one of these or a supporting role you should prepare the number that best shows your abilities.

 Sarah – I’ll Know

 Adelaide – Sue Me

Male Roles

The two male audition songs are I’ll Know (Sky) and Sue Me (Nathan). If you are auditioning for both roles then you should prepare both numbers. If you are auditioning for only one of these or a supporting role you should prepare the number that best shows your abilities.

 Sky – I’ll Know

 Nathan – Sue Me

  • Chris Caggiano, a college professor and musical theatre guru, ranked Guys and Dolls #4 on his list of The 100 Funniest Musicals of All Time. Anything Goes made #23, Pippin earned #66, and Bye Bye Birde ranked #80. Surprisingly, Les Miserables didn’t make the list 🙂
